Institute of Distance Education provides oppurtunities of education both Undergraduate and Postgraduate level through Distance Education mode. The Institute was established in 1981 and its Alumni are spread all over the world.Courses are offered both Regular and Open University Streams through Distance Education and Learning mode. There are Academic Year courses extending July/August to April/May. There are Calender Year courses between January and December of every year. Admissions are done at the Institute of Distance Education located in the Chepauk Campus of University of Madras or at a number of Spot Admission Centres

 

distributed all over the Country.Institute for Distance Education (IDE), University of Madras began in 1981 now a dominant presence in the area of distance education in South India. IDE, previously known as ice, which courses to remote system from the Open University system offer. The system is a blessing for those committed to the school organizes a complete, professional and civil servants employed in the conventional mode.

Unique natural features of the IDE application printed educational materials, personal contact programs (PCP) and an extensive network of research centers in India and abroad. Over the past three years, is preparing to learning materials in a format IDE (PS), and received recognition from many countries. A group of experienced teachers from different schools class PCP.

The IDE is led by Prof. cum director and currently has 19 teachers from different disciplines. The Institute offers   22 - undergraduate Courses, 14 -post-graduate studies, 5-Professional 7 M. Phil., 12 and 16 certificates and diplomas 2 pg diplomas. Moreover, more than 150 physicians previously under the control of the IDE faculty contract. Spot the admission May 26 centers in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The institute has 30 study centers in land distribution in India and five abroad. The annual intake of students is approximately 50,000. The cumulative effect for 2006/07 is 148451.
